Farmers Prevail, 5-3, Over Boca Raton
|
The Union Farmers faced a tough opponent in Boca Raton pitcher Pat McConnell, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Scripps Field by a final score of 5-3. McConnell went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Ruben Villasenor picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 12 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 1-2. Jim Unknown was credited with the save for Union, his 1st of the season.
Had Bill Hardwick not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Hardwick hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Farmers.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Hardwick said after the game.
Even with the win, the Farmers have a dismal 13-30 record.
