Cyclones Bridle Rail Riders, 4-2
|
The Augusta Rail Riders got a sterling performance from pitcher Francisco Varela, but the Cyclones still prevailed, 4-2. Varela was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Francisco Palazuelos got the win, improving to 2-2. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 3. Rickey Turner closed the game out for Brooklyn, earning his 2nd save.
The Cyclones got a big at-bat from second baseman Armando Matos. For the game, Matos was 2-3 with a double, while adding 3 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 4th double of the season gave Brooklyn a 3-1 lead.
In comments to the Brooklyn Bulletin, Matos insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
Brooklyn is now 19-12, 2½ games up in the Prince Fielder League John Mayberry Division.
