The Santa Barbara Suenos got a superb performance from pitcher Ryuichi Akiyama. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Scottsdale. The Scorpions won the game, 4-0. In spite of the loss, Akiyama was named the player of the game. He threw 8 innings allowing 4 runs. Scottsdale reliever Nelson Ramirez picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Ryuichi Akiyama shouldered the loss. Even with the win, the Scorpions have a dismal 8-18 record.

Curt Mayle aided the Scottsdale cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the third baseman was 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Mayle.
