Pioneers Subdue South Carolina, 2-1
|
The Pioneers had to overcome a fine performance from South Carolina pitcher Ange Schmit to grab a 2-1 win at "The Fort" at B.C. Place. Schmit allowed 2 earned runs over 7 innings. Kenko Samurakami got the win, improving to 8-6. He worked 8 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2. The save was Ekagra Manasi's, his 14th.
Hiroya Shimada had a big run-scoring single for the Pioneers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Vancouver leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Ange Schmit and stroked the single to right. It was his 109th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pioneers ahead, 2-0.
"I really like what we did out there today," Shimada said after the game.
The Pioneers now have a record of 40-50 with the win over South Carolina.
