Farmers Get Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
Santa Barbara got a terrific game from second baseman Francisco Vásquez. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Union, 8-4. Vásquez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Danny Mena picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 8 in 7.1 innings. The Farmers, now 2-5, have not found much traction so far in 2033.
The Farmers got a big at-bat from shortstop Manny Rodriguez. For the game, Rodriguez was 2-5 with 2 doubles. In the top of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 2nd double of the season gave Union a 3-2 lead.
"I felt good up there," said Rodriguez. "I saw the ball well."
