Wolverines Clip Rats 4-3 in R1 Contest
|
In a crucial game, the Wichita Wolverines put on their best show, beating the Rock River Rats by a final score of 4-3 today. Jeff Stephens earned player of the game honors, as he threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Wichita and Rock River are now tied at 1 wins apiece in the best-of-7 affair.
Had Hai-dong Szema not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Szema hit a 2-run double. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Wolverines.
"It was a good effort all around," said Szema.
The next game is scheduled for Tuesday at The Rat Hole in California City. Slated to start are Magyver McKenzie for the Wichita Wolverines and Lúcio Barrón for the the Rock River Rats.
