Brooklyn Takes Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
|
The Brooklyn Black Knights faced a challenging opponent in Hawaii Islanders right-hander Rodrigo Garza, but did just enough to squeak out a 2-1 win in Game 1 of the Divisional Round today. Brooklyn now leads 1-0 in the best-of-7 series. The Black Knights won despite the Islanders getting an excellent start from starter Garza, who allowed 1 earned run at scattered 2 hits over 7 innings.
Had Rob Koller not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases empty, Koller hit a solo home run. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Black Knights.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Koller. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Aloha Stadium. Slated to start are Xiong Yang for Brooklyn and Allen Cox for Hawaii.
