Divisional Championship Game 1 goes to Maple Thanks to Angel
|
The Maple Marauders started the Divisional Championship in style today, downing the visiting South Carolina Bombers at Legends Park by a score of 6-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Marauders right fielder Angel Barajas was named player of the game after he was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2.
Had Andreas Kubel not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Kubel hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Marauders.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Barajas said.
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Ange Schmit for South Carolina and Paul Barrett for Maple.
