One game in and the Winter League Championship is already looking exhausting.

The Augusta Rail Riders and the Wichita Storm needed 11 innings to settle Game 1, with the Rail Riders finally taking the 2-1 victory at The Storm Center. Earning player of the game honors in the win was Augusta starting pitcher Yen-nien Pan, who threw 7 innings allowing 1 run. The Rail Riders and Storm will play a best-of-7 series.

Augusta needed the clutch hitting of Stanford Ploughman to notch the win. The second baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Rail Riders on top, 2-1. For the game, Ploughman had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"There's a lot of good karma around our club," said winning manager Ralph Oakes.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at The Storm Center in Wichita. Slated to start are Alberto Montoya for the Augusta Rail Riders and Bobby Lloyd for the the Wichita Storm.
