The Caribbean Commies faced a tough opponent in Augusta pitcher Ryuhei Akamine, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Castro Field by a final score of 5-3. Akamine went 8 innings and allowed 5 earned runs. Caribbean reliever Oscar Orozlo picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ryuhei Akamine was saddled with the loss. Jose Laracuente earned save number 2.

Had Jose Aguiar not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Aguiar hit a 2-run double. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Commies.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Caribbean manager Ánibal Machado. "It's usually not just one thing."
