So Cal starter Masafumi Tamura pitched effectively against the Portland Beavers at House of the Republic. The left-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Pin-zhen Au converted his 35th save in 37 tries. The winning streak has now reached 7 games for the Republic.
Gerd Zabel, who is rated as the 7th best prospect by BNN, aided the So Cal cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the right fielder was 2-2 with 2 singles and 2 walks.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Zabel, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
