The Grand Island Islanders started the League Championship Series in style today, winning on the road against the Jefferson Indians at Ballpark of Monterrey HS by a score of 9-2 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Islanders right-hander J.D. Lindsey was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball.

Grand Island catcher Rich Stewart helped the Islanders go up, 4-0, in the top of the second inning. With the game tied, Stewart hit a grand slam home run off Jefferson pitcher Teguh Sukarno.

Said losing manager Dan Miller: "Give the Islanders credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow in Jefferson. Slated to start are Travis Finch for Grand Island and Kyle Simon for Jefferson.
