Theriot goes 3-for-5, Patriots Move to 42-21
|
The Francis Lewis Patriots grabbed a 9-7 win over the Tenafly Tigers at Ballpark of León HS. Francis Lewis third baseman Jimmy Theriot went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3 to earn player of the game honors. The winner was Francis Lewis reliever Tyler Morrissey, now 1-0. The loser was Justin Swiss. Tommy Burhoe was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 17 of 20 save opportunities.
The Patriots got a big at-bat from shortstop Ross Centner. For the game, Centner hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 16th home run of the season gave Francis Lewis a 9-7 lead.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Theriot, "but we got it done."
The first-place Patriots have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
