Golden Bears Score Late, Upend Patriots, 4-3
|
Guadalajara HS Grounds was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Billings West Golden Bears and the George Washington Patriots.
The George Washington Patriots got a sterling performance from pitcher Nick Evans, but the Golden Bears still prevailed, 4-3. Evans was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings allowing 1 run. Billings West reliever Chad Koos was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Josh Lewis took the loss for George Washington.
Had Kyle Wakeman not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Wakeman hit a 2-run double. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Golden Bears.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Wakeman said.
The Golden Bears' win now puts them at 27-29.
