A jubilant Kevin McCarthy joined the postgame press conference at Ballpark of Morelia HS today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Central Tech Blues pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Grand Island Islanders center fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led the Islanders to a 13-0 win.
"He made it look easy," said Yassin Flament, manager of the Blues. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Kevin McCarthy singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th and walked in the 8th.
Looking at his present stats, McCarthy has compiled a .411 batting average in 48 games with a .495 on-base percentage, while hitting 4 home runs and driving in 28 runs.
