Varn Sizzles -- Smokes Shade for 5 Hits Thursday, July 10th, 2031 Zach Varn did a number on the Shade in the St. Petersburg 12-0 victory today, and the number was 5. The Pelicans first baseman banged out 5 hits in 5 at-bats at Tim Raines Stadium to lead his club past the Stroudsburg Shade. "I felt good in the batter's box today," he said later. "I had confidence in my swing and knew that it was there and that I could get the job done." Zach Varn hit a solo-shot off Gohta Yamashiro in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
