Israel Smashes 3 Homers for Astoria Tuesday, August 24th, 2032 Astoria Argonauts catcher Mendel Israel put on a dazzling display of power today at Golden Fleece Park against the Bronx Bombers. In the 14-11 Argonauts victory Israel penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Bronx manager Carl Smith said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 31-year-old had 3 hits in 3 at-bats, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Israel said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Mendel Israel walked in a run in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Ken Morita in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Jian-guo Yang in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Wilber Matthews in the 6th and walked in the 8th. So far on the season Israel is hitting .235 with 12 home runs, 33 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 39 hits and played in 57 games. |
