League Gives Carroll and Riley 3-Game Suspensions
Saturday, July 24th, 2032
Yesterday at Cobb Field Vern Carroll and Raymond Riley got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Billings Mustangs and Albuquerque Cacti. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.
Today the league office notified both ballclubs that Carroll and Riley would be given 3-game suspensions for fighting.
So far this season Carroll is hitting .261 with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 11 runs scored. He has 24 hits in 92 at-bats and a .313 OBP.
For this year Riley has chalked up 2 wins and 9 losses in 20 starts with 81 strikeouts in 104.2 innings and a 4.64 ERA.
