Blazers Held Hitless by Byrd
Saturday, June 26th, 2032
Clarence Byrd relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Bloomington hitless in a 2-0 win at Blue Ivy Stadium today.
"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Blazers off balance and guessing the whole game."
The 31-year-old starter rung up 8 strikeouts and 2 walks in whipping the Blazers.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Bloomington skipper Javier Ramírez said.
This year Byrd has posted a 5-5 mark in 14 starts and has a 3.17 ERA.
