The Francis Lewis Patriots got a magnificent performance from pitcher Andy Gabbard, who stifled the Kearny High offense en route to a 1-0 Patriots win at Ottawa HS Grounds. Francis Lewis is now 25-19, 3½ games up in the Pete Rose League Alex Rodriguez Division.

Gabbard, who has sometimes raised the ire of coaches and teammates with his famously lackadaisical work ethic, turned in a spirited effort. The hurler struck out 14 in 8 innings and gave up no earned runs.

Gabbard, who is rated as the 36th best prospect by BNN, moves to 2-2 on the year with 54 strikeouts.

"Andy had electric stuff," said Francis Lewis manager Justin Easton.
