Cardinals Losing Streak at 5 After Extra-Inning Loss to Islanders
The Grand Island Islanders defeated the Montreal Cardinals, 8-7, in 12 innings. Ebbe Schmitz led the way, going 3-for-7 for Grand Island. Reliever Bob Upton picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. Steve Mauger took the loss. The Cardinals, at 21-23, have lost 5 in a row.

The game was all tied up in the top of the 12th, until Schmitz delivered big-time for Grand Island, stroking a dramatic grand slam home run off Steve Mauger. The game-changing hit put the Islanders on top, 8-4.

"Our team showed some spunk," said Schmitz.
