Cardinals Mow Down Chargers, 9-3

Loggers Ballpark was the site for Hank Aaron League action featuring the Topeka West Chargers and Kearny High Cardinals.
The Kearny High Cardinals picked up a win at Loggers Ballpark, knocking off the Topeka West Chargers, 9-3. Starting pitcher Lou Butt, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Butt went 8.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. His record improves to 3-1.
Kearny High second baseman Joe McGaughy made his contribution to the Cardinals cause with a grand slam home run in the bottom of the first inning. For the day, McGaughy was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once.
"Baseball is about momentum," said McGaughy, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
Kearny High is 19-24 and Topeka West, with the loss, 25-18.
