Big Day for Casarez as Cardinals Down Indians, 11-7
|
The Kearny High Cardinals defeated the Jefferson Indians, 11-7, at Ballpark of Monterrey HS today. Leading the charge for Kearny High was catcher Tony Casarez. He was 2 for 2 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Josh Brolin nailed down his 7th save. Kearny High bumps their record to 13-18 with the win.
Gary Hafer said the idea of hitting a home run barely crossed his mind when he came to bat in the top of the eighth. Hafer belted a 3-run home run to stake Kearny High to a 8-5 lead. His 5th home run of the season came off Jefferson pitcher Matt Lieber.
Cardinals manager Seth Richert wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
