Islanders Take Shellacking, Lose 16-2
The Columbus Aces thrashed the Hawaii Islanders, 16-2, at Central Park Downtown Stadium. Michael Fitzgerald was one of the batting leaders. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for Columbus. Bruno McCormick picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-1. He struck out 5 in 7 innings. The Aces are off to a tough start, getting just their 3rd win in 8 games.

In the bottom of the third inning, Columbus got a break when Fitzgerald went to the plate. With two outs, a runner on 1st and the Aces leading 1-0, Fitzgerald hit a 2-run home run.

Hawaii manager Leland Ray was on the defensive afterward. "You can go back and make us look as bad as you want to," he told a reporter, "and then I can throw more numbers at you and make us look better."
