Yomiuri got a strong outing from Gavin Taylor as the Giants defeated the Yokohama Bay Stars, 4-2, at Ballpark of Yamagata College. Yomiuri reliever Yasunao Matsuno picked up the win to move to 3-0. Robby Fitzgerald suffered the loss. Kenshin Kawamoto sewed up the save, his 14th.

Yomiuri took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, pinch hitter Yasushi Hagiwara hit a 2-run home run that amped up the crowd.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Yomiuri manager Masato Ojima.

The Giants have an impressive 26-16 record.
