Golden Eagles Take Nail-Biter Over Fighters
The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles sent the home crowd home smiling from Sailboats Ballpark.

The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles wiggled past the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, 6-5, at Sailboats Ballpark. Tohoku Rakuten designated hitter Kiyotaka Sugimoto earned player of the game honors. Tohoku Rakuten reliever Takamitsu Soma picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Juro Fujimoto took the loss.

Makoto Miyata changed the game with one swing of the bat. With no one out in the bottom of the tenth, the Tohoku Rakuten shortstop hammered a solo home run off Juro Fujimoto. It was his 1st home run of the season. With it, Tohoku Rakuten took the lead, 6-5.

"Other than the game," said Sugimoto, "we haven't won anything yet."

The Golden Eagles raised their record to 24-16.
