The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks topped the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, 9-3, with second baseman Phil Ruschel playing a big role. Ruschel belted 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 5 for the Hawks in the win. Tien Tran-Dinh, the winner, improved to 3-1. He held Tohoku Rakuten to 2 earned runs on 4 hits over 5.1 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Fukuoka SoftBank is now 13-16, while Tohoku Rakuten is 17-12.

Ruschel contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Fukuoka SoftBank in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Ruschel took a curveball from Mike Craft and stroked the home run to left-center. His 2nd home run of the season allowed the Hawks to leap in front, 4-2.
