Lions Pull Off Thrilling Win in Extras
The Chiba Lotte Marines got a superb performance from designated hitter Jeff Watts. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Saitama Seibu. The Lions won the game, 14-12. In spite of the loss, Watts was named the player of the game. He hit 3 home runs. He scored 4 runs and drove in 7. The winner was Matt Todd in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Jim Unknown took the loss. Jim Unknown closed the game out for Saitama Seibu, earning his 1st save.

The most important at-bat for Saitama Seibu came in the top of the ninth inning, when shortstop Yugo Muramoto stroked a 1-0 splitter to right-center for a run-scoring single, putting Saitama Seibu up, 11-10.

In postgame remarks, Muramoto asked: "How do you sum up a game like that?"
