The So Cal Republic got a magnificent performance from pitcher Masafumi Tamura, who stifled the Eureka offense en route to a 2-1 Republic win at The Nest. In 8 innings, Tamura surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. So Cal is 50-32 and Eureka, with the loss, 46-35.
So Cal designated hitter Zeus Mayhem changed the complexion of the game in the top of the sixth inning. That's when he belted a 2-run home run off Mitsunari Kobayashi. His 11th home run of the season put So Cal in front, 2-1.
"I liked his command," said So Cal manager Munenori Sato. "Masafumi was throwing strikes."
