Golden Eagles Bang Out 7-5 Win Versus Saitama Seibu
|
Saitama Seibu right fielder Kuniaki Tanaka had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Tanaka went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2, even as Tohoku Rakuten beat the Lions, 7-5. Tanaka was named the player of the game despite the loss. Jordan Cora picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-1. Mikiya Kubo was tagged with the loss. With the win, the Golden Eagles improved to 11-9.
Kiyotaka Sugimoto, who is tied for 2nd in the PL in total bases with 66, helped out the Tohoku Rakuten cause in the top of the fifth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the designated hitter was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"A great team win and something real positive we can build on," said Sugimoto after the game.
