The Saitama Seibu Lions put together a convincing win at Field of the Chariots, defeating the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, 16-3. Myoung-chul Yoo was one of the hitting stars. He was 1 for 1 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5 for Saitama Seibu. Kosuke Nakano picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 5 in 6 innings. The save went to Akifumi Yamauchi, his 1st this season.

The Lions got an important contribution from left fielder Jason Gates, who in the bottom of the second knocked a 1-2 fastball into left for a run-scoring single. It was his 16th hit of the season and put the Lions ahead, 2-0.

Tohoku Rakuten manager Bob Edwards called the loss "a monumental failure."

The first-place Lions have a one-game lead in their division.
