Victory Pushes Lions Record to 10-8
|
The Saitama Seibu Lions had to overcome a big game from Tohoku Rakuten center fielder James Briggs to leave Field of the Chariots with a 7-5 victory. Briggs went 2 for 4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Saitama Seibu is first in the Pacific Division with a record of 10-8.
The Golden Eagles had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Lions going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old shortstop Yugo Muramoto came to the plate. Muramoto hit a 2-run single on a 0-2 fastball from Tohoku Rakuten hurler Tsugunosuke Kunishige. It was Muramoto's 14th hit of the year.
In comments to the Saitama Seibu Chronicle, Muramoto admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
