Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Seiichiro Kanamori, the Hanshin Tigers defeated the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, 6-2. Kanamori went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs for the Tigers. Hanshin reliever Shi-yu Chao picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Mitsunobu Tamura was saddled with the loss. Taichiro Ishida recorded his 1st save for Hanshin.
Steve Durrett had a go-ahead single for Hanshin in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the 19-year old center fielder hit a 2-run single off Jim Unknown. His 8th hit of the season made the score 4-2.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Kanamori.
Hanshin, now 4-2, has played well in the early going.
