Chargers Lose to Vampires in Walk Off
|
For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.
Santa Clara beat Topeka West on the strength of starter Mike Marquez's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Santa Clara now sits in last place in the Pete Rose League Alex Rodriguez Division at 9-15.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Santa Clara trailing 3-2, David Conkling hit a fastball from Chris Marks to right for a 3-run home run. Just like that, the Vampires had a walk-off win.
"I had a good game plan," said Marquez. "I made my pitches." His manager concurred. "It was all there," Juan Proenza said, "the velocity, the sharpness of his pitches."
