Lions Fall to Islanders, 8-3
|
Grand Island center fielder Kevin McCarthy made his presence felt in the 8-3 Islanders triumph over the Lerna Lions. McCarthy was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Tim Johnson, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held the Lions to 2 earned runs on 1 hit over 5.2 innings, while striking out 9 and walking 2. Bill Burton closed it out for his 1st save.
In the bottom of the first, McCarthy had one of his most important at-bats: a 2-run home run off Kevin Hostetter that staked the Islanders to a 2-0 lead.
"We'll build on this win," said McCarthy.
The Islanders saw their record improve to 7-12.
