Earthquakes Need Extras to Top Aces
The Columbus Aces got a superb performance from pitcher Chris Riddle. Still, it wasn't enough to beat San Francisco. The Earthquakes won the game, 10-4. In spite of the loss, Riddle was named the player of the game. He threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball. The winner was San Francisco reliever Eric Markle, now 3-2. The loser was Amaui Mahi'ai. The last-place Earthquakes now have a win-loss record of 30-48.

The most critical at-bat came in the top of the tenth inning. With no one out, Luis Álvarez hit a 0-1 knuckleball from Amaui Mahi'ai for a 2-run home run. It put San Francisco in front, 6-4.

"We're all smiles after that win," Álvarez told the San Francisco Observer.
