The Derby Panthers had no problem beating the Canby Lancers, 13-1, at Managua HS Grounds. Adam Zehrung led the way. He was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for Derby. The winner was Chris Gatz, who threw 125 pitches over 8.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 8 hits. The Panthers improved to 7-8.
Early in the game, Zehrung had a grand slam home run for Derby. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Panthers on top, 4-0.
Canby manager Cody Coffman called the blowout loss "just something that happens from time to time."
