Vampires Hope Win Turns Around Slow Start
Billings West got a terrific performance from center fielder Daniel Monaco, but it wasn't enough to beat the Santa Clara Vampires. Santa Clara won the River Otters Ballpark contest, 11-8. Monaco was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Santa Clara reliever Rob Sparks picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Alan Williams took the loss. Jon Campbell, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.

Tom Conrad helped out the Santa Clara cause in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 2-run single. For the game, the third baseman was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"Guys always talk about winning games because of the 'little things,'" Conrad told the Santa Clara Daily News. "Call me old fashioned, but I think baseball is about the big things -- like scoring more runs."

With the win, Santa Clara goes to 6-9, while the Golden Bears fall to 8-7.
