The bats were silent much of the day at Ballpark of Morelia HS. But John Bernard conjured up just enough offense to carry the Panthers past the Grand Island Islanders, 3-2. Bernard was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The second-place Panthers have won 5 consecutive games.

Pitman High grabbed the momentum in the top of the sixth, when Bernard, who is tied for 10th in the HAL in bases on balls with 12, hit a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Panthers out in front, 3-2.

"That's baseball," said Grand Island manager Doug Taylor. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
