Vampires Prevail, 3-1, Over George Washington
|
Santa Clara got a first-rate effort from pitcher Ben Brandstetter, who frustrated George Washington hitters en route to a 3-1 Vampires triumph at River Otters Ballpark. The winning pitcher was Brandstetter, now 1-1. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 5. Jon Campbell recorded the save for Santa Clara, his 1st of the season.
In the bottom of the sixth, David Conkling had a big run-scoring single off Quinn Hall. With the single, the Santa Clara catcher put his team in front, 2-1. He went 2 for 3 with a triple and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI in the contest.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Santa Clara manager Juan Proenza.
The Vampires, with just their 1st win in 7 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
