Mustangs Raise Rally Flag, Beat Santa Clara, 7-5
|
The rain at Visigoths Stadium did not keep Downsview and Santa Clara from finishing their game.
The Downsview Mustangs beat the Santa Clara Vampires, 7-5, at Visigoths Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Danny Roman, who captured player of the game honors. He was 1 for 1 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Getting the save was Wade Knuth, his 1st.
Justin Wilson found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Santa Clara hurler Will Carew, the 17-year-old second baseman got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run. His 2nd RBI of the season put the Mustangs on top, 5-4.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Wilson said.
With the loss, Santa Clara sinks to 0-4.
