Cardinals Clip Blues in Tight Contest
Kearny High beat Central Tech at Loggers Ballpark, escaping with a 7-6 win. The win in large part was due to shortstop Luis Escalante, who earned player of the game honors. He went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Kearny High reliever Josh Brolin was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Ryan Schwanz took the loss. Kearny High goes to 3-0 with the win.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Kearny High catcher Tony Casarez, facing Ryan Schwanz, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Cardinals the 7-6 win.

"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Escalante.
