The Derby Panthers dealt the Topeka West Chargers a 14-9 loss at Breakers Ballpark. Joel Fiebig was the star on offense. He was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5. Greg Keelan got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 7. The win leaves Derby with a record of 1-1.
Doing his part for Derby was catcher Fernando Benitez, who stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the first. For the game, Benitez went 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk.
