Tight Tilt Goes to Cardinals, 3-2
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Nezahualcoyotl HS Grounds, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2032 LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL season. On the mound was Quinn Hall for the visiting George Washington Patriots and Billy Carroll for the hometown Montreal Cardinals. In a spirited contest, the Cardinals pulled out the win, defeating the Patriots by the score of 3-2. Earning player of the game honors was Quinn Hall. Montreal reliever Scott Hanna picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jason Flesher was saddled with the loss.
Had Mike Nelson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Nelson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Cardinals.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Montreal manager Hector Corretjer. "It's usually not just one thing."
