Cardinals Walk Off with 6-5 Win
|
Fans of the Kearny High Cardinals who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Kearny High win over the visiting Central Tech Blues, 6-5. Randy Lynn started for the home team against Joel Manza. Gary Hafer earned the coveted player of the game honors. The win was Josh Brolin's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Ryan Schwanz took the loss for Central Tech.
Hafer had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the ninth. On a 2-1 fastball from Ryan Schwanz, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Cardinals a 6-5 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Hafer.
"We found a way to get it done," Hafer said.
