Dixon, Capitals Beat Stars, 19-8
|
In a high-scoring contest between Victoria and Niagara, third baseman Jim Dixon was a difference-maker. Dixon, who leads the LBL in bases on balls with 21, earned player of the game honors in the 19-8 Victoria win. He went 4-5 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. The winner was Bob Reusch in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Carl Phillips took the loss. The Capitals saw their win-loss record go to 11-10. At the same time, the Stars fell to 12-10.
Victoria took the lead in the top of the sixth. With no one out and the bases loaded, Perry Offredi stroked a bases-clearing double to make it 10-7, Capitals.
"Glad to get this win," said Dixon. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
