Heat Fall to .500 After Loss to Stars
|
The Kelowna Heat got a sterling performance from first baseman Jason Leahy, but the Stars still prevailed, 7-3. Leahy was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Niagara reliever John Folland, now 2-0. The loser was Werner Jackman. The Stars, at 11-8, lead by one game in their division.
Niagara shortstop George Greening made his contribution to the Stars cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning. For the day, Greening was 2-4 with 2 singles and was hit by a pitch.
Greening expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
