Monarchs Edge Montreal in Pitching Duel
|
Hatchets Ballpark was the site of a exceptional pitchers' duel.
The London Monarchs got a magnificent performance from pitcher Zack Hogan, who muffled the Montreal offense en route to a tight 1-0 Monarchs win at Hatchets Ballpark. Hogan, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. Harry Ayotte locked down his 1st save.
Flexing his muscles for London was Kirk Valcourt. The first baseman had a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth for the Monarchs. It put his team ahead, 1-0, and sent them on to victory. For the game, Valcourt went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk.
"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Hogan said.
The Monarchs are off to a tough start, getting just their 3rd win in 10 games.
