Heat Edge Past Monarchs, 7-6
|
The London Monarchs got a sterling performance from catcher Herbert Howe, but the Heat still prevailed, 7-6. Howe was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Kelowna reliever Jack Agnew picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Emmett Lundy absorbed the loss. Jim Unknown earned his 1st save in 1 tries.
Had Henry Harrington not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Harrington hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Heat.
In postgame remarks, Harrington said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
At 5-2, the Heat have played well so far.
