Sheppard, Stars Humble Legends
The 2032 season did not get off to quite the start the Saskatoon Legends had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Niagara Stars at Ballpark of Red Deer College. The final score was 16-2. Left Fielder Bill Sheppard was named player of the game for Niagara. Niagara reliever Carl Phillips picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jan Woodbury took the loss.

Though there was little doubt about Niagara's eventual triumph, center fielder John Makeever made a particularly significant contribution in the top of the seventh inning when he hit a 3-run home run off Jayden Kelly. Makeever went 1 for 5 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3.

"It was full throttle on our side," said Makeever.
